Side effects worse than the disease (SMH)
Here's more data to call into question the standard approach to dis-ease, of finding a quick pill or potion to encourage and facilitate health and wellbeing.
PUBLIC health experts have called for an independent body to monitor drug safety after it emerged that young children were more likely to end up in hospital because of side effects from a flu vaccine than they were from the disease itself.
The analysis contradicts government safety advice that the harm did not outweigh the risk and raises concerns about the Therapeutic Goods Administration's assessment of the vaccine.
As has been more fully covered in other material on this and the Belief Institute website, the primary determinant of health and disease-free living is a strong, positive 'pyscho-social ecosystem'.
Get that right, or strong, and the need for vaccinations pretty much disappears.
The power and efficacy of a strong belief-system (the 'pyscho' part of the psycho-social) is central to health and wellbeing.
A telling example of that power is that of British adventurer Ed Stafford who recently walked the entire length of the Amazon River, with little more than a backpack.
"I've been told I was going to be killed so many times," the 34-year-old former British army captain told The Associated Press. "But I'm not dead. I'm here now and ... I've proved that if you want something enough, you can do anything!"
...
Stafford and Sanchez Rivera encountered 18-foot (5.5-meter) long caiman crocodiles, enormous anaconda snakes, illness, food shortages and the threat of drowning.1
